A HUNTING WE WILL GO!

I DREW A CENTRAL DEER TAG THIS YEAR, SO MY "DEDICATED HUNTER" TOOK ME UP HOBBLE CREEK CANYON TO GET A BIG ONE! ON OPENING MORNING WE LEFT AT 5:00AM, WENT AND PICKED UP ANOTHER "DEDICATED HUNTER" (DUSTY P.). THE THREE OF US PLANNED TO HIKE UP A MOUNTAIN SIDE AND BE ON TOP BY SUNRISE. SHORTLY AFTER WE STARTED HIKING, I REALIZED HOW OUT OF SHAPE I AM. I HAD TO STOP ABOUT EVERY TWENTY FEET TO TAKE A BREATHER! ONCE WE FINALLY GOT TO THE TOP, THE SUN WAS STARTING TO RISE. TO SAY THE LEAST, ONCE THE SUN CAME UP AND WE COULD SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON AROUND US, WE REALIZED WE WERE SURROUNDED BY OTHER HUNTERS. THERE WERE SO MANY GUN SHOTS, I WAS SCARED WE WERE GOING TO GET SHOT! WE ONLY ENDED UP SEEING SMALL BUCKS AND MANY DOE'S. NO LUCK ON OPENING MORNING. THE NEXT TIME WE HAD A CHANCE TO GO OUT, DUSTY'S DAD TOOK US TO AN AREA HE HAD SPECIAL PERMISSION TO GO INTO. WE DID SEE MANY MORE BIG BUCKS THEN, BUT MOST WERE TOO FAR TO SHOOT. I DID HAVE A CHANCE TO SHOOT A VERY SMALL TWO POINT, BUT I DECIDED NOT TO. THAT'S THE STORY OF MY UNSUCCESSFUL DEER HUNT. MAYBE I'LL HAVE MORE LUCK NEXT YEAR IF I DRAW A TAG.
